Health Goals
If you think it's all uphill from here to get better health outcomes, don't panic. Incorporate the 10% difference in your daily life and reach your health goals.
This is the time to focus on your health goals, as this is where changes made will make a difference to the quality of your life down the track.
Drinker? Smoker? Drugs? Junk food addict? What's your poison? You have promised yourself that you will change 'later'. Well, later is here.
If weight is an issue, and for many people it is, accept that you are never going to be the size you were when you were in your twenties. It's not about being stick thin, it's about being a healthy weight and getting a better health outcome for the future.
So what can you do? I like what Weight Watchers calls the 10% difference. If you try to make a big bang change in habits all at once, you will probably fail and then spend the next few months beating yourself up about it. Don't do it.
The 10% difference means you take a new approach. You make just a 10% difference to what you did yesterday and it doesn't seem like such a big deal. When you're ready, you make another 10% difference and you will be on your way.
Don't go on a diet! Read about the
top dieting myths
and then activate the 10% difference plan. Talk to a dietician about ways of changing your eating habits forever. That way the weight will come off and stay off. Having said that, there is a very good
'eating plan'
that will kick start your weight loss program, but I find it difficult to stick with for long due to the lack of variety. Still, it's chock full of vegetables. Either way, you are going to have to learn to live on more fruit, vegetables and legumes and fewer carbs, fat and protein.

It's definately worth a look.
Sometimes, it's other habits that are standing in the way of losing weight and getting better health outcomes. If smoking or drinking is an issue, speak to your doctor. There are very effective medications available now that, in conjunction with your firm decision to manage the substance (rather than it manage you) will help. But you have to really decide it's time to take control.
Exercise? Again, activate the 10% difference. You don't need to join a gym or buy expensive equipment. You just need to decide you're going to do it and get going.
