Menopause Symptoms
While I have headed this article menopause symptoms (and
perimenopause symptoms),
I have done so reluctantly because it seems to indicate menopause is an illness. It is not. It is simply a transition middle age women go through at roughly 50 years of age. There are a very wide range of menopause symptoms and perimenopause symptoms a woman may experience although it is by no means certain you will experience all or even a majority of these listed.
| Physical | Emotional | Mental | | Hot flushes | Depression | Loss of concentration | | Dizziness | Mood swings | Apprehension | | Urge incontinence | Anxiety | Mental blanks | | Insomnia | Indecisiveness | Loss of memory | | Headaches | Irrational feelings | | | Libido changes | Confusion | | | Anthropathies (painful joints) | Vivid dreams | | | Cystitis | Tearfulness | | | Formication (sensation of ants onthe skin) | | | | Globus hystericus (feeling of a lump in the throat) | | |
And you thought you weren't going to have any fun!
If you begin to experience any of these symptoms repeatedly, think about investigating. Hot flashes are the only 'symptom' that is experienced only in menopause. All the other conditions on this list can be linked to menopause or may be as a result of other conditions. You will need to establish that what you are experiencing is menopause and not something else. You may also seek relief from some of these menopause and permimenopause symptoms through your doctor, depending on how severe your experience is. If your experience of menopause is making you less effective on a daily basis than you want to be, maybe your doctor can assist. Most of the physical signs experienced in menopause and perimenopause will respond to
hormone replacement therapy
(HRT). Talk to your doctor if you have any questions, do some reading, talk to your friends. Trust your own experience. If hormone replacement therapy is not what you want to do, there are other potential solutions in alternative medicines.
Alternative therapies, like medicines, should only be administered by a health care professional. Combinations and doses of alternative therapies can have unexpected results if not administered properly.
Herbal Medicines: There are several herbs that contain oestrogen like substances, which is the main hormone that your body is reducing its production of. Agnus Costus, False Unicorn Root and Red Sage are all reputed to have properties that can act as a kind of natural HRT.
Black Cohosh is also reputed to have oestrogen like substances as well as a relaxing effect on the mind.
Camomile can be used as a sedative or a relaxant and the tea, which is readily available, is said to be useful for relieving insomnia and anxiety.
Homeopathy: A trained homeopath practices what the expression 'hair of the dog' means. They will give you a small amount of a substance you are showing the signs of being poisoned by. It's a little like the idea behind a vaccine.
A homeopath will look at a body in its entirety and treat it, in its entirely. Go to someone you trust. The results can be surprising.
Chinese Medicine:
In Chinese medicine, the belief is that each of us is born with a fixed quantity of yin and yang. Yin is used up first, so as you age, you become yin deficient. Much of chinese medicine is aimed at managing and restoring this balance between yin and yang.
There are plenty of alternatives. Do not sit there and quietly suffer in silence with menopause symptoms or
perimenopause symptoms.
If you want or need assistance, get it. And know these three things: 1.You are not alone. Other women have been in this place and are currently in this place and will be in this place again. Speak to other wise women in your life and when the time comes, offer assistance to those who come after you. 2.Your health practitioner can help. Menopause symptoms respond well to a variety of treatments. Seek them out. 3.It will end – and you will then be into a phase of life where you will experience an extraordinary zest for life. Plan for it and move into it with confidence.
