Rose between many thorns?

by Anne M.
(NY)

I didn't go back to school until I was in my mid 40's. I got the chance to go to university part time once my kids went to school themselves and I was concerned about working full time.
I don't know what I was thinking because I felt like an idiot! There I was a slightly frumpy (hey, two young kids and still a house to run) lining up with teenagers to enroll. I had a lot of fight or flight adrenaline running through me!
Anyway, I stuck it out right through to getting my classes and books. I was so nervous I thought I was going to be sick the first few times I went.
But it became more and more familiar and the people were really nice.
Well, it went full tilt for two years and I graduated with a Business diploma.
The unexpected result was I had a new found confidence in myself and my abilities. It led me to new places, made me more daring overall (!) and ultimately won me a much better job. Amazing.
If you get the chance do it. Just do it. It changes everything.

This encourages me. I have had to go back to work after 21 years of moving all over the country with 1 then 2 then 3 then 4 children. Usually we home schooled, and I have given and given. We are one of many who lost most everything in this economic decline. I still have two kids at home, live in yet a new state. One of my kids has chronic health issues, and I so need it to be my turn. Anyhow I thank you for your encouragement!

I agree. I did something similar but was older when I did it. My gosh it made such a different to my outlook.

I felt better, I walked taller and seemed to manage all aspects of my life more easily. It sounds silly, I know but that is how I felt.

Now I am doing short courses that interest me and it's just wonderful!
